Special Needs

Kanata Dragons are pleased to offer children with special needs the opportunity to play soccer. We are able to offer this program to a limited number of children with the assistance of dedicated special needs staff who are hired by the Kanata Dragons for the duration of the summer season. In previous seasons children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome have participated in this program.

Program Objectives

  • Achieve individual objectives throughout the 10-week soccer season.
  • Encourage an active lifestyle.

  • Empower children to participate in extracurricular activities with other children.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and collaboration.
  • Learn and refine soccer skills.
  • Strengthen communication skills.

Program Coordinator - Erin Kral

I’m a recent graduate from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics. This fall, I will start studying to become an occupational therapist in graduate school. I have experience working with special needs children through several years of coaching with the Ottawa Lions and with Club Mont Sainte-Marie. I love being able to work with children with special needs and to help them grow through sports.
